Honda Fit Aces Ultimate Test: A Trip to IKEA

Put your versatile Honda Fit to the ultimate test in Santa Cruz, California

The Honda Fit is the ideal car for a lot of situations, especially when it comes to fuel efficiency (33 city mpg, 41 highway mpg) and maneuverability, but what about the ultimate challenge - a trip to IKEA?

A trip to the popular Swedish furniture store could be challenging for some vehicles, but the Honda Fit is more than up to the task.

Yes, we can tell you that the Fit has a storage space of 52.7 cubic feet, but what does that mean for you? Just much can it really hold?

On a trip to IKEA, Cars.com's Matt Schmitz was able to fit (pun intended) all of the following into his Fit:

  • 7-foot-long desk with a separate glass-pane surface of equal length
  • 7-foot-long wall-mountable storage cabinet
  • 3 large boxed globe accent lamps
  • LED-accent strip
  • Set of mountable metal mail organizers
  • Desk-drawer insert
  • Paper bag full of assorted candies
  • Shoulder bags with laptop computers
  • Grocery totes

How in the world did that all fit? Thanks to the Magic Seat, either or both of the Fit's 60/40 rear seatbacks can fold down flat and flush with the low cargo floor, giving Fit drivers an astounding 52.7 cubic feet of cargo space -- five more cu. ft. than the Chevy Sonic and 27 more cu. ft. than the Ford Fiesta.

What else can you fit in a Fit? Watch the video below for some unusual cargo items!
